What:  8th Annual White-to-Black Belt Wine Tasting and Silent Auction
When:  Friday, Sept. 15, 2015 from 7 - 11 p.m.
Where:   Tower Center
5100 Poplar Ave #3300

You don’t want to miss this fun event that features a wine tasting and a silent auction. All proceeds go to the MTKD Scholarship Fund, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, that aims to empower Memphis-area youth to create a positive change within themselves and their communities through martial arts training. The MTKD Scholarship Fund enables kids to experience the benefits of taekwondo, regardless of their ability to pay, by helping to send them to TKD summer camp, tournament, day camps, and allowing them to take traditional TKD classes here at MTKD where they can test, and attempt to reach the goal of black belt. With your help, we are growing black belts, one child at a time.  Childcare will be available at MTKD for a small fee.

Tickets are on sale now —>

If you are unable to attend, but would like to make a tax-deductible donation, you may do that as well by using the link above.

In life, as we also learn in Taekwondo, we cannot control others’ actions.  We can only control one person—our self.  Self-control is extremely important inside and outside the school, whether conducting oneself in free sparring or in one’s personal affairs.
The white background represents ‘purity’ or ‘emptiness’.  In the center lies a Taeguk, the Taoist symbol of balance or harmony between opposites.  The red top half represents Yang (heaven, day, male, heat, active).  The blue lower half represents Yin (earth, night, female, cold, passive).  The three lines at each corner are known as  trigrams. The three unbroken bars symbolize Heaven-Creative, while the opposite three broken bars  symbolize Earth-Receptive.  The trigram in the upper right corner is Water-Treacherous-Danger, and in the opposite corner lies Fire-Loyal-Love.
